According to the American Cancer Society, colon-cancer affects less than one percent of people under 30. Despite these odds, Ryan Murphy, of Rogers, Ark., was diagnosed with colon cancer on July 3, 2002, just shy of his 27th birthday. After barely two years of fighting the disease, Ryan passed away in 2004. Since then, his friends and family have come together to raise support to help Northwest Arkansas get the colon cancer awareness and assistance it needs. The sixth annual Ryan Murphy Cancer Benefit will be held November 19, 2011, at the Elks Lodge in Rogers, Ark., from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM, to raise funds for the Cancer Support Home of Benton County to provide colon cancer awareness, screenings and support services. The Cancer Support Home gave Ryan comfort and care during his battle with colon cancer. They continually provide free services to Northwest Arkansas community members dealing with cancer through support groups, education, cancer screenings, and resources for coping and recovery. In 2008, colorectal cancer alone was estimated to take the lives of 50,000 people in the U.S. alone. The death rate from colorectal cancer has been declining thanks to increased awareness provided by places like the Cancer Support Home. We would greatly appreciate your consideration in helping make this event possible. Sponsorships are available in any denomination, and will be recognized in event publicity.
